Jarkko Mattheiszen

I’m a tracking, mixing and mastering engineer from the South-Eastern parts of Finland. I originally got into the creative side of music when I first picked up my older sister’s acoustic guitar in my pre-teens. Soon after that I figured out I could record and play back two separate guitar tracks with a toy cassette recorder. That primitive form of overdub recording was my ticket to the endless learning process I later learned to call audio engineering.

From the earliest stages of my audio engineering experience it was clear to me that metal and hard rock were the styles I loved working with the most. After I got high school and the compulsory military service out of the way, I started studying for a degree in audio production. By the time my studies started, I had already gotten quite a bit of experience in the field of recording and mixing music and had managed to put together a small but working setup, so I simultaneously opened my own business, offering mixing, mastering and freelance recording services. After recording lots and lots of demos for local bands I started drifting more and more towards the post production side of the business. Nowadays I’m a full-time self-employed AE in my company, Tainted Studio. My work is mostly mixing and mastering international metal and rock bands’ releases, but I still enjoy a good producing and recording session every now and then!

My first encounter with the ever-growing line of Slate Digital products was years ago when Steven first presented to the public a couple of drum samples he had recorded. Since then I’ve been constantly following the evolution of the company, and these days I use Slate Digital products nearly every day in my work.
